Articling Program

Articling students will have the opportunity to draft and argue a variety of motions and in the process, gain valuable courtroom experience. Students will conduct research into many different areas of insurance law and general civil litigation issues. In addition, students have carriage of their own Small Claims Court files. This provides an opportunity to develop their file management skills while enjoying direct interaction with clients and opposing counsel.

In years past, we have enjoyed an excellent retention of our articling students. Smockum Zarnett LLP prefers to expand and grow as a firm of skilled litigators by “growing from within.”

If you are interested in civil litigation our firm offers an excellent opportunity to build your advocacy skills in a collegial and supportive work enviroment. The firm typically hires two articling students.

Smockum Zarnett LLP follows the guidelines set by the Law Society of Ontario when conducting interviews for articling positions.

We are seeking candidates for two articling positions for 2027/2028, in accordance with the Law Society of Ontario Recruitment Procedures. Articling applications/materials are to be submitted through the VIRecruit Portal by June 26, 2026.
